How to install the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Data Migration Manager

• Synopsis

  This guide will show you how to prepare, install and configure Dynamics CRM 4.0 Data Migration Manager in order to provide high-level data migration capability for .csv data from an external source.

• Applicable to

  All SherWeb hosted CRM accounts.

• Prerequisite

  • administrative rights to log into the control panel.
  • a CRM user with the System Administrator role?

  Part I: Preparation

  1. Make sure Outlook is closed.
  2. Download the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Data Migration Manager and save it on your desktop.
  3. When the download is complete, click on Close.
  4. Create a folder on your desktop and call it “Data Migration Manager”.
  5. Drag and drop the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Data Migration Manager download into the folder that you created in step 4.
  6. Double click on the folder.
  7. Double click on the file.
  8. If prompted, accept the Windows security warning by clicking on Run.
  9. A pop-up window will appear asking you where to extract the file. Choose the default location (your desktop) and then click on OK.
  10. Double click on the setupdmclient icon to start the installation.
  11. Depending on your Windows version, a pop-up window may appear asking for your permission to continue. Click on Continue to proceed with the installation.
  12. The License Agreement window will appear. You must check the box I accept this license agreement and then click on I Accept to continue with the installation.
  13. You will now be asked to Specify database server. Click on Use SQL Server Express (will be installed, if necessary) and then click on Next.
  14. If required, you will be asked to install required components to complete the installation of the Data Migration Manager. Please click on Install to proceed.
  15. When asked to download components from the internet, click on Yes.
  16. Click on Next after all components have installed successfully.

  Part II: Installation

  1. Complete the installation of the Dynamics CRM 4.0 Data Migration Manager by installing CRM to your computer. You should now be seeing the Select Installation Location window. Choose where you intend to install the Data Migration Manager and then click on Next.
  2. The Systems Requirements window will appear and validate that the required system components are available. Correct any errors, if any, and then click on Next to continue with the installation.
  3. The Data Migration Manager should now be installing on your computer. A pop-up window will confirm that the installation was successful. Click on Close to finalize the installation.
      

  Part III: Configuration

  1. In order to use the Data Migration Manager, you will need to configure the software to connect to your CRM site. Open the Data Migration Manager located in the Program Files under the folder Microsoft Dynamics CRM or directly via : \Microsoft Dynamics CRM Data Migration Manager\DMClient\res\web\bin\Microsoft.Crm.Tools.DMWizard.exe
  2. If prompted by the User Account Control window, click on Continue.
  3. The Data Migration Manager will start. Click on Sign In.
  4. Click on Next in order to allow the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Data Migration Manager Configuration Wizard to connect to your CRM site.
  5. A new window will appear prompting you to select where you will sign-in in the Data Migration Manager. Click on An online service provider and then click on Next.
  6. Enter the Web address of your CRM site and then click on Next.?

     You will find the URL of your CRM site in your Control Panel in the User Statistics section under the CRM title.

  7. Enter the username and password of the CRM user with the System Administrator role, check the box Remember my password and connect me automatically if you wish, and then click on OK.
  8. Vista users may be asked to enter their local Administrator group password. Please do so now and then click on Next, or contact your IT department in order have your permissions enabled.
  9. The Help Us Improve the Customer Experience window will appear. Check the box Yes, I am willing to participate anonymously in the Customer Experience Improvement Program if you wish, and then click on Next.
  10. The Data Migration Manager will run a validation check that it can connect to your CRM SQL server. Click on Next after you have corrected any errors.
  11. A Windows Security Alert may appear. If so, click on Unblock in order to complete the installation of the Data Migration Manager.
  12. Enter your username and password again, check the box Remember my password and connect me automatically if you wish, and then click on OK to log in.
  13. You should now be seeing the start screen of the Data Migration Manager. This is the portal to which you will be importing your data into CRM. If you are unfamiliar with the tool, please click on the Help icon.
